THE GARDEN DESIGN PROCESS

WHY TIMING MATTERS IN GARDEN DESIGN

When Should I Start Planning My Garden?

Many people start thinking about their garden in spring, but the most successful gardens are planned months earlier.

Garden design involves more than creating a layout. It includes careful planning, technical detail, sourcing materials, and coordinating skilled landscapers — many of whom are booked well in advance.

Beginning the process in winter allows time for considered design decisions and helps ensure your garden is ready for construction at the right time.

EXAMPLE TIMELINE:

Winter (December–January)
Initial consultation, ideas and design development

Late Winter (February)
Detailed plans, materials and contractor scheduling

Spring (March–May)
Construction and planting (weather dependent)

Summer
Enjoy your finished garden!

Melanie Driver offers a variety of garden design services tailored to your requirements, from inspiration and advice, to rethinking existing planting, through to a complete transformation.  We also source garden sculpture, furniture, water features and other accessories to complete your new garden.

If you are unsure which service you require or want to arrange a chat, do contact us and we would be happy to arrange a consultation.

Our design process is quite straightforward, as you will see from the steps outlined below.

We visit the garden and discuss design ideas and options with you

01

We commission a Geosurvey of the property.

02

A thorough site analysis is carried out.

03

Your garden design takes shape.

04

The design is presented and we make any amendments.

05

Technical plans are drawn for clients and contractors.

06

We invite trusted contractors to quote for the build.

07

We are able to monitor the entire process.

08

We source all plants and implement planting.

09

We sign off the build process.

10

A planting maintenance schedule is created with ShootGardening.

We leave you to enjoy your new garden!
